incl. VAT (if applicable) according to margin schemeRare Han Pieck armchair LaWo 1 designed for his company LaWo Holland in 1946. This special design is the first Dutch chair made in one piece! Han Pieck (1923-2010), a pupil of Mart Stam, managed to build a machine with a subsidy from the American Marshall Plan and a high-frequency steam generator developed by Philips that enabled him to make these chairs. With his companion Maarten van Raalte, he founded the LaWo factory which stands for Laminated Wood in Ommen. Han Pieck planned to make 2000 chairs but due to material shortages (due to the war) and production problems, only around 1300 chairs were produced, after which the factory went bankrupt. Each chair has a unique number under the seat. This chair has production number 86 which means this is a very early specimen. The Lawo armchair is now considered one of the most important Dutch modernist chair designs. Very rare because they were made in a limited edition and not many of them survived (around 50 pieces). The condition is still good with normal signs of use; the chair is still very sturdy with nice patina (see photos). At the bottom of the legs three pieces of veneer have been restored (see photos) and the chair has a new lacquer coating. Material: plywood, oak veneer. Dimensions: h x w x d = 77 x 66,5 x 76 cm and the seat height is 37 cm. Source: ”Stoelen” by Peter Vöge and Bab Westerveld, pages 29 and 70 (see photos).
