DKX Wire Chairs by Charles Eames for Herman Miller, 1960s – Set of 6

Rare set of six DKX  Mesh chairs designed by Charles Eames for Herman Miller in 1954. These chairs were purchased in the early 1960s. DKX stands for Dining (D) height, K- Wire (K) chair on X base (X). The X-base was replaced in 1954 for the lighter and more versatile ‘H Base’, but for the sake of continuity the X in the name stayed. These chairs come from the first owner and are still in very good condition with the original (two-piece) bikini upholstery. The seat of one of the chairs has been re-welded (just to be sure) and therefore very sturdy again (see photo). Marked: Two chairs still have the original Herman Miller sticker. Dimensions: h x w x d = 83 x 48 x 51 cm and the seat height is 46 cm. Material: Chromed steel and black (original) upholstery. The chrome has been polished and the upholstery has been cleaned. We have also replaced some floor caps (which were worn) with original new Vitra floor caps. Source: Objects and Furniture Design Charles and Ray Eames, page 84 and
