Pastoe
Pastoe is one of the leading Dutch furniture manufacturers from the middle of the last century, a piece of Dutch heritage. After the war, Frits Loeb, the founder of UMS (which stands for Utrecht Machine Chair and Furniture Factory), later Pastoe, sent his young designer Cees Braakman to America for three months to gain new ideas and find suppliers of wood and veneer. There Cees Braakman is inspired to design the Pastoe furniture in a more modern style, which is now familiar to us, including curved wooden dining room chairs, armchairs and Pastoe furniture with loop legs. This furniture is perfect for small-sized living and fits literally everywhere, passe-partout. In 1948 this name was referred to as “passe-partout” (modest, modern, light and can be used in all kinds of places) hence the name of Pas-Toe, Pastoe.
