Gae Aulenti Folding Stool
Folding stool designed by Gae Aulenti for the Milanese company Centrofly, Italy (this company also manufactured the first American kitchens in Italy). This folding stool is designed with the April 212 Chair in 1964. In 1972 Zanotta bought the design of the chair (when Centrofly went bankrupt). The April chair is then changed (a little bit) by Gea Aulenti for Zanotta and re-released as Tripolina chair. The didn’t re-release the stool. This stool is therefore more rare and made before 1972. There was also a serving tray available. For the design a special type of tubular steel has been developed, not circular, but flattened oval. This tube looks slender but has the same strength of oval tube. The oval-shaped tube has later also been used for the in 1969 designed Plia chair. Material: stainless steel and dark brown (almost black) leather. This vintage-folding stool can be used as footstool or hocker. The seat height is 36 cm. Folded dimensions: 70 x 42 x 4 cm. Considering its age this stool is still in very good condition. Source: Dutch book called Furniture that make history (Meubels die geschiedenis maken), Eigen Huis & Interieur page 43 and 44.
