Anneau AP-14 armchairs by Pierre Paulin for A. Polak, 1960s, set of two in natural saddle leather
€ 7.200
Anneau AP-14 armchairs designed by Pierre Paulin in 1959 and produced by A. Polak Meubelindustrie, also known as AP Originals. The design is defined by its restrained clarity: a slender, ring-shaped metal frame with a freely suspended leather seat, characteristic of modernist thinking in which construction, material and function are central.
The name Anneau refers to the oval ring form of both the frame and the seat. The armchairs are made of galvanized steel and thick natural leather, which has recently been renewed. In Goed Wonen magazine (1959), the chairs are described as a “spacious and comfortable easy chair by the French designer Pierre Paulin.” Dimensions per armchair: 81 × 67 × 68 cm (W×D×H) / 31.9 × 26.4 × 26.8 in. Seat height: 38 cm / 15 in. Weight per chair: 11 kg / approx. 24 lbs. Source: Goed Wonen magazine, July 1959, page XI; special issue 1959/60, page 53; AP Originals catalogue.
The condition of this set of two armchairs is very good. The seats are made of thick natural saddle leather, which is new and will soften and settle with use, gradually adapting to the shape of the seat and the sitter. The metal frames show light signs of wear consistent with age and remain stable and sturdy.
